Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year….and a 2022 Baseball Season. My name is John McDevitt and I am president of the Mid County Baseball League.
The EDCO League was formed over 75 years ago in Eastern Delaware County along the Mad Dade Boulevard corridor. Over the years the league has grown covering all four corners of the county. In 2019, MN Recreation (mnrecreation.myrec.com) took over the administration of the league covering all tasks like scheduling and website, which enabled us to keep the team league fees very low at $100 per team. Rules (available upon request) were made very user friendly in terms of rosters and adding players with some playoff eligibility game requirements. The league’s official name was changed for the 2020 season and new teams were added as well as some teams sat out the 2020 COVID Season. Tri County Umpires and Frank Gorgone were added in 2020 who have been great ambassadors for the newly named league.
FRESHMEN 14U. Several leagues have requested for number purposes that 13 and 14 year old play together.
SOPHOMORES 16U. The primary age here is 14-15 but a player can play to age 16 for reasons such as development or play with his school grade.
JUNIORS 19U: The primary age here is 16-17 but again a player can play to age 19. A good high school player or 18 year old going into his senior year and plays varsity baseball should play in the seniors.
SENIORS UNLIMITED: This is a men’s league with many teams having at least 4 or 5 DELCO Men’s League talent quality players. Core age is 18 to 23.
The fees will remain the same for the 2022 Season which are a $100 league fee and $100 umpire assignor if paid by March 31st. The fee will increase $25 if paid in April and $50 if paid in May. The cost of the umpire is $75 per game for the home team only and $75 each for two umpires for the playoffs.
Play for the Freshmen and Sophomore Divisions will begin in mid to late April and be over in mid-July. With playoffs, the season consists of around 20 to 22 games depending on how you do in the playoffs. The upper divisions will start around mid-May and run thru the third week of July with the same 20 to 22 game schedule.
There will be no part time teams this year. Our junior and senior divisions look very healthy and will have 8 teams in each division. Eight is a really good number for scheduling purposes. Our two lower divisions had 4 to 5 teams and we hope to see some growth in this area.
Please feel free to share this email or call or email with any questions. A zoom meeting will be scheduled in February.
