The league is scheduled to begin this Monday, August 26. There are 24 teams in the league and all teams will play seven regular season matches. The 24 teams will play in two 12-team divisions.
Matches will be played at both the Veterans Park and Drexel Lodge Park Bocce Courts. They will be played on weekday (Mon.-Thur.) evenings at 6:00pm (and 7:00pm first week only) for the first five weeks of the regular season. The regular season will conclude with matches on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sat., Oct. 5.
VETERANS PARK - Lawrence Road in Broomall
Court A - Closest to the walking trail
Court B - Closest to the field
DREXEL LODGE PARK - West Chester Pike (Train Museum) in Newtown Square
Please park in designated spots only or in gravel parking lot.
Court A - Closest to the road
Court B - Closest to the field
The equipment containers at both locations contain two sets of bocce balls, measuring tapes, a first aid kit, blank registration forms and rules. The container at Veterans Park also contains pegs for the scoreboards located at the center of each court. The pegs at the Drexel Lodge Courts are attached to each scoreboard and should remain there. Please return all equipment (including scoreboard pegs at Veterans Park) to the containers when finished and secure containers, gates and shed. Once in locked position, please move numbers off of combination to be certain the locks are secure.
I would encourage everyone to review the rules and notes. Each match will consist of two games played to 11 points. Teams will be awarded one point in the standings for each game they win. The match time limit will remain 60 minutes. A team representative should report results (final score of each game) to rehnow@mnsd.org as soon as possible. Match results and updated standings will be posted on the website as soon as possible. Once at the site, click on the bocce tab, and then the schedules, scores and standings link to view.
THE FIRST SIX (6) TEAMS BY POINTS STANDING IN EACH DIVISION WILL QUALIFY FOR THE PLAYOFFS which will begin at the conclusion of the regular season. In addition, if two or more teams are tied for the final (6th place) playoff spot in either division, those tied teams will qualify for the playoffs provided there wasn't a head-to-head sweep of games between the tied teams during the regular season. All playoff matches will be best two out of three games won with each game being played to 11 points.
In the event of rain, an email will be sent at least one hour before the scheduled match time for that day indicating if matches have been postponed. Team representatives are also asked to alert their respective teams. We typically will not postpone a match if it hasn't yet begun raining and there is a less than 50% chance of precipitation. If it begins raining just before or during a match, please use sound judgment and know that we can usually reschedule. Rainouts will be rescheduled as soon as possible. In some instances, we may ask the team representatives to make the call regarding a weather cancellation but would alert you ahead of time.
