Functional Yoga is designed for the human body of today while celebrating the many ways traditional yoga gets it right. Yoga is an ancient practice bringing together the body, mind and spirit. However, our understanding of the human body has changed significantly since the physical practice of yoga was first developed. Moreover, our jobs, sports and hobbies often require repetitive notions which may lead to overuse injuries - factors that traditional yoga may not address.

One of the main truths and principles behind human movement is the universal law of 3-dimensional. At anytime we are moving, our joints and muscles are going through 3 different planes of motion at the same time to make up the overall picture of movement we see. Each and everyone of our joints and muscles need to experience the following three different planes of motion to function.

1. Sagittal Plane - Forward and Back Movement
2. Frontal Plane - Side to side Movement
3. transverse Plane - Rotation or Twisting Movement

This program will explore yoga in a 3-dimensional format and will meet at Drexel Lodge Park in Newtown Square. The instructor is Angela Mohan.
